Barcelona is the city of dragons. There is no other place in the world where you can find so many of these fiery creatures. It seems as if they had come from everywhere to settle on rooftops and cornices and remain there for all eternity, petrified and immobile.

The Andorrean photographer Josep Martinez took his camera and roamed the city streets in search of them.

The result is a fantastic bestiary, in which he depicts 500 different dragons of all sizes and types. The title of his wonderful book is. “Drakcelona: City of Dragons.”

On this Barcelona walking tour we let ourselves be inspired by photographer Josep Martinez . Searching for dragons we stroll through the Eixample and through the old town, past magnificent Art Nouveau town houses and Gothic palaces.  We explore medieval myths and legends and find out what part the dragon and other mythical creatures play in the psyche of Barcelona.
